Record Review - Going Out Of My Head - Adventures On The Indie Dancefloor 1995-1999

cover.jpg I missed the 90's Brit-indie-dance-rave-music scene. Not because I was too young, nope, because I was too old, and on the other side of the world. That's where this new 4 CD collection from Cherry red comes in. It fills in the gaps for me. Sure I have heard of Fat Boy Slim, Bentley Rhythm Ace, Bomb The Bass and several others in this 5 hours of music collection, but I missed out on Howie B, Dub Pistols, Death In Vegas and the many others wrapped around the "known to me" tracks.

What can I say about the this music, being a Boomer it was not, and still is not intended to be for me. But the music went straight to my legs, and I am sure it will do the same for you. You won't need the bum-bag, glowsticks and other accouterments of that time, just get up and dance.

The 4 CDs are themed and each one is subtitled. There is CD 1 called Poppin' which includes the title track from Fat Boy Slim "Going Out Of My Head" along with 14 others from the likes of The Charlatans, Sneaker Pimps, and The Prodigy.

Then comes the second CD called Pingin' which opens with Death In Vegas, and continues with a mix of Bentley Rhythm Ace, Howie B, Moloko, and Basement Jaxx among the 14 tracks.

Moving on to CD 3. This one is called "Peakin' and on it you will find Ocean Colour Scene, James, Arthur, and Cornershop among the 15 tracks.

Which brings us to the last CD called "Prangin'. Here we find Paul Weller, Babylon Zoo, Catatonia, and Radiohead, much to my surprise, along with others making up 12 tracks.

A worthy collection of music that is now around 30 years old. That makes you think don't it? Going Out Of My Head - Adventures On The Indie Dancefloor 1995-1999 comes with a glossy booklet with an essay from someone called The Nine Legged Spider

So whether you were too old, or too young, or lucky enough to have been there this compilation is for you if you like to "Cut a rug", as we old-timers like to say.
